Gandhara museum impresses Buddhist delegation in Pak

A delegation of the World Fellowship of Buddhists visited the historical museum in the north-western Pakistani city on Thursday.

Fellowship of Buddhists visited the historical museum in the
north-western Pakistani city on Thursday.
The delegation of monks, led by WFB secretary general
Phallop Thaiarry, took great interest in the museum`s Gandhara
gallery and was impressed by art pieces, including standing
and seated Buddha figures and the depiction of his life in
panels and relief.
The monks also visited the museum?s Islamic section and
cultural gallery and appreciated its rich collection of the
museum.

The delegation yesterday met President Asif Ali Zardari,
who appreciated steps proposed by the WFB to promote the
Gandhara heritage of Pakistan, including the establishment of
a Gandhara chair in a renowned university, association of the
WFB with some Pakistani institutions and the translation of
literature on Gandhara into the Thai language.
