Lahore: A Pakistani court on Monday adjourned till May 21 the hearing of a petition filed by Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and his aide Abdul Rehman Makki seeking security following the announcement of a bounty for them by the US.
A Deputy Attorney General appeared before Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and said the Interior Ministry`s response to the petition was awaited.
The federal government`s law officer requested the court to grant more time for filing the ministry`s response.
The Chief Justice directed the law officer to ensure the government`s response was submitted at the next hearing and adjourned the matter till May 21.
Saeed and Makki had claimed in their petition that Pakistani courts had exonerated them of the charges levelled against them by India and the US.
The US recently announced a 10-million dollar reward for Saeed and a two-million dollar bounty for Makki.
They further claimed the bounties were announced at the instigation of India and contended that this was a breach of international law as no foreign state has the right to interfere with the liberty and security of citizens of another sovereign country.
Saeed and Makki asked the court to direct the government to provide them security and to seek the withdrawal of the bounties.
