Karzai upset by US, Russia drug raid
The Afghan Prez says he was not informed beforehand of a drug raid that involved Russia and US forces.
Kabul: The Afghan president says he was not informed beforehand of a drug raid that involved Russian and US forces and is demanding an explanation.
A statement from Hamid Karzai`s press office says the Afghan leader is eager to improve ties with Russia, but that no country should carry out military operations on Afghan soil without permission.
The raid resulted in the seizure of USD 56 million worth of heroin and morphine.
In today`s statement, Karzai called the raid a violation of national sovereignty.
A US Embassy spokeswoman said yesterday that three branches of Afghan law enforcement were also present in yesterday`s raid in eastern Nangarhar province.
