Lankan housemaid returned with metal rods inserted to her body

A Sri Lankan housemaid, working in Kuwait for 2 months, returned with 14 nails inserted into her body allegedly by her employer.

Colombo: In the second such incident in the past few months, a Sri Lankan housemaid who returned after working in Kuwait for two months has been found to have 14 nails inserted into her body allegedly by her employer.
"We have located 14 metal rods inserted in to her body. Out of that 8 were removed from her right arm and one from left leg," Hospital director Dr S Rajamanthree said, adding, "Another operation will be done to remove 4 rods in left arm and one in right hand."

38-year-old V R Lechchami, a mother of two is the second victim found within four months with a similar experience.

The victim has lodged a complaint to the police before she got admitted to the hospital stating that the wife of the landlord beat her and hammered the nails into her body, the police said.

In August another housemaid, T Ariyawathi, returned to the country from Saudi Arabia with 23 nails inserted to her body. Doctors removed all of them successfully later.
