Kathmandu: The "secret" China visit of commanders of Maoists` former guerrilla force recently was in breach of a key peace accord the ex-rebels had inked with major Nepalese parties in 2006 before entering the mainstream politics, caretaker Premier Madhav Kumar Nepal has said.
The week-long visit was in breach of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) as the commanders did not inform the Special Committee on Army Integration and Rehabilitation, the Prime Minister told journalists yesterday.
The committee is looking into the issue of integration of the former combatants of the Maoists` People`s Liberation Army (PLA) with the country`s Army.
Premier Nepal said the government would seek clarification on the Maoists` PLA commanders` secret China visit from the concerned body overseeing the former combatants -- the United Nations Mission in Nepal.
How did the ex-combatants living in UN-monitored camps leave for China without permission from the Special Committee?, he asked.
UCPN-Maoist politburo member Janardan Sharma and Deputy PLA commander Chandra Prakash Khanal were among the Maoists who paid the controversial visit to China.
