Islamabad: The commander of NATO forces in
Afghanistan, Gen Stanley McChrystal, on Thursday briefed Pakistan
Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on the ongoing operations
against the Taliban in the neighbouring country.
Ambassador Mark Sedwell, NATO’s senior civilian
representative to Afghanistan, also visited Pakistan to
conduct meetings with NATO and coalition diplomatic officials
in Islamabad, said a statement issued by the US embassy.
McChrystal and Sedwell briefed NATO and coalition
ambassadors to Pakistan on ISAF?s current operations in
Afghanistan.
McChrystal, who visits Pakistan regularly to consult with
Kayani on ISAF activities in Afghanistan, "praised Pakistan?s
efforts to confront violent extremists and honoured the
sacrifices the country is making".
He highlighted the "successes being achieved through
increased coordination between ISAF and Pakistan in
strengthening border security and countering violent
extremists," the statement said.
