Islamabad: Militant outfits in Pakistan will not be allowed to collect "fitrah", a religious tax, from people during the holy month of Ramadan, advisor to the prime minister on interior affairs Rehman Malik has said.
Malik said a ban has been announced on issuance of receipts to collect "fitrah" throughout the country, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Fitrah is a religious tax or alms given to the poor on the day Muslims break the fasting period at the end of the month of Ramadan.
Malik said no one will be allowed to collect "fitrah" without permission from a magistrate.
On security arrangements during Ramadan, Malik said 15,000 more policemen would be recruited in Sindh province for the purpose.
