Nepal Maoist lawmaker elected vice-chairperson of CA

Onsari Gharti, the only UCPN-M woman leader to have won the CA polls, was elected vice-chairperson of the Constituent Assembly of Nepal.

Kathmandu: Onsari Gharti, the only UCPN-M woman leader to have won the CA polls, was on Wednesday elected vice-chairperson of the Constituent Assembly of Nepal.

She defeated Anuradha Thapa Magar of the Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party (NMKP).

The Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) leader secured the support of 484 lawmakers of the 489 present during the voting.
Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara proposed Gharti`s candidacy and Ananda Dhungana of the Nepali Congress seconded the proposal, according to Constituent Assembly Secretariat.

The Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and the Madhesi Peoples Rights Forum-Democratic voted in favour of Gharti.
Gharti was elected Constituent Assembly member from Rolpa Constituency-2.

Last week, CPN-UML`s lawmaker Subhas Nemwang was elected chairman of the Constituent Assembly.
