Kathmandu: The ruling CPN-UML alliance in Nepal will mobilise their cadres to counter Maoists and launch a nationwide political campaign to raise public awareness in favour of the peace and Constitution drafting processes.
The meeting of ruling allies - Nepali Congress and UML - yesterday discussed the latest political unrest in the country and accused the former rebels of continuing engage in violence even after joining mainstream politics in November 2006.

The alliance decided to organise joint rallies, public meeting and various other programmes across Nepal along with other members of the 22-party alliance to counter the Maoists, who have threatened to impose indefinite strike if a national government is not formed by January 24.

Nepali Congress leader and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has asked the Maoists to help in drafting the Constitution instead of launching agitation.

The meeting underlined the need to forge understanding with Maoists to manage their Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) before drafting the new Constitution.

Meanwhile, Maoist supremo Prachanda yesterday has alleged foreign powers are hatching conspiracy to make them bow down.

Inaugurating the third national convention of the All Nepal Industrial Workers’ Association, Prachanda said Nepal has come closer towards a drastic political transformation and the Maoists will ultimately succeed in restoring civilian
supremacy.
