Islamabad: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari was moved to tears when he heard his son and co-chairman of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal address party leaders at a gathering in the presidency, invoking his mother`s "sacrifice" for inspiration.
Zardari said they were tears of both joy and sorrow. "The tears of joy due to the speech of Bilawal that showed that the PPP is in safe hands and sorrow that Bilawal’s mother (former premier Benazir Bhutto) is not among us to listen to her son who spoke intelligently on leading the party in the coming future," he said.

Bilawal spoke to PPP leaders at a dinner hosted at the presidency late last night. "As the present and the future converge here today, let us pledge to save the federation and give the people what they want," Bilawal was quoted as saying in his address in a statement issued by the presidential spokesman.

"We are ready to sacrifice the last drop of our blood for the country as my mother and grandfather did. We will continue the fight for democracy and people’s rights and achieve the dreams that our elders saw to make Pakistan a great country," the 20-year-old PPP chairman who is studying history at Oxford, said.

"We will ensure human rights and women’s rights and relief to the poor and downtrodden. We will achieve what others could not do," he said.
