Pak wants cooperative relationship with US: Khar

Khar told Clinton that Pakistan wants a "cooperative relationship with the US based on mutual respect and interests".

Islamabad: Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Monday called for a cooperative relationship with the US based on mutual respect and interests during her meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the margins of the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan.

The resetting of the bilateral relationship would be guided by recommendations framed by Pakistan`s parliament, Khar was quoted as saying by a statement issued by the Foreign Office here.

Khar told Clinton that Pakistan wants a "cooperative relationship with the US based on mutual respect and mutual interests".

Pakistan will "continue to play its role for peace, security and development in Afghanistan and the region, which remain a shared objective of both Pakistan and the US", she added.

Clinton underlined the importance of having an "enduring and strategic relationship with Pakistan and the need to move forward with the relationship".

She said the US respects the recommendations of Pakistan`s parliament and is committed to work with Pakistan in the pursuit of shared objectives.

She appreciated "Pakistan`s critical contributions to the fight against terrorism and extremism".
