Islamabad: Human traffickers in Pakistan are intercepting information from British-Pakistanis to forge documents to help illegal migrants settle in Britain, a daily said Tuesday.

Several hundred people of Pakistani origin send in good faith sponsorship to their parents, siblings, relatives and invite them for settlement, or a visit or employment in Britain.

But the traffickers intercepted the information, the Daily Times reported.

Hundreds of fake documents have been detected by the British high commission here, it said. It has filed complaints with Pakistan`s interior ministry.

The investigation by the daily revealed that some "highly influential" politicians and officials of law enforcement agencies were supporting the human traffickers.

A British Pakistani group has urged President Asif Ali Zardari to take immediate action.

Amjad Malik, chairman of the UK Association of Pakistani Lawyers, warned that if no action was taken, the reputation of Pakistan may suffer.
