Islamabad: Pakistan`s former Consul General in Houston has been arrested for allegedly issuing a Pakistani passport to an Indian national, officials said here.

The National Accountability Bureau informed a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry that former Consul General Ghulam Rasool Baloch, currently serving at a senior position in the Foreign Office, had been arrested.
A senior legal officer of NAB informed the apex court yesterday about its actions in the case after the bench sought a report on the reasons why Baloch had not yet been arrested.

The apex court was hearing an appeal by Muhammad Naeem, the former Assistant Consul General in Houston who was arrested by NAB 17 months ago in connection with the Pakistani passport being issued to Indian national Aziz Moosa.
During the hearing on Thursday, the Chief Justice had expressed his displeasure at what he described as the preferential treatment being given to Baloch because he held a senior position in the Foreign Office.

The Indian national was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency for alleged involvement in some bomb attacks. At the time of his arrest, Indian and Pakistani passports were allegedly found from his possession.
