Lahore: Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz
Muhammad Saeed on Tuesday filed a petition in a Pakistani court
demanding the implementation of a resolution unanimously
passed by parliament to stop US drone attacks on Pakistani
soil.
Saeed filed the constitutional petition through his
counsel A K Dogar in the Lahore High Court.
He asked the court to direct the federal government
to make public information in all matters of public
importance, including "secret deals" with the US, as Article
19-A of the Constitution entitles every citizen to have access
to such information.
He asked the court to declare that pre-emptive
strikes by foreign countries were not permitted by
international law and therefore, every man, woman and child
has the right to claim to be protected.
Saeed said the resolution passed by a joint session
of the two houses of parliament on May 14 was the voice of the
people and needs to be implemented so that the people can live
in dignity like the citizens of a respectable, independent
sovereign nation.
He also sought a declaration from the court that the
federal government had acted against the general will,
collective wisdom and obligation to exercise its powers and
authority through the chosen representatives of the people.
Dogar said the President, Prime Minister and all
state functionaries should be made to follow the life of
Prophet Mohammed and asked to vacate the presidency, Prime
Minister`s House and other such residences and live in smaller
houses like other common people to get rid of foreign debt and
borrowing.
