Lahore: Shahbaz Taseer, son of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, has been abducted from Lahore`s Gulburg area.

According to sources, Shahbaz was travelling with his friend when four armed men abducted them on gunpoint on Friday, TV channel reported.

Later on, the abductors released Shahbaz`s friend, who informed the police about the incident.

According to a newspaper, eyewitnesses and traffic wardens present on the site said that four men cornered Shahbaz’s vehicle near Hussain Chowk, pulled out the driver and took the late governor’s son away.

Police officials are not revealing much at the moment, but said that they were cordoning off the Gulberg area to launch a search operation, the report added.

In January, Shahbaz’s father- Salmaan Taseer- a liberal politican, was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards for championing the case of Aasia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman who was sentenced to death last November for allegedly committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
