Kathmamndu: Motorists here are facing
severe shortage of petroleum products after the Maoists-led
oil workers union shut down all private and government petrol
pumps for indefinite period in the capital city.

Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Petroleum Workers` Union
has called the shut down to press their 16-point demands
including issuance of appointment letter to the employees and
a pay equivalent to that prescribed by the government.
Long queue of vehicles were seen in various private
and government-run petrol pumps in Kathmandu for the past few
days.

The situation became worse as the Nepal Petroleum
Dealers` Association and agitating Maoist workers have failed
to reach a deal on their demands.

All nine depots of Nepal Oil Corporation across the
country remained closed for the fifth consecutive day today
due to the strike.

Besides, the agitating Maoist workers are demanding
a life insurance cover and overtime benefits.
