Islamabad: Three members of the four-member committee formed by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to initiate peace talks with the Taliban arrived in Islamabad Thursday for consultations prior to their meeting with the premier.
Peshawar-based senior journalist Rahimullah Yousafzai, former ambassador Rustam Shah Mohmand and former ISI official Amir Shah arrived in Islamabad and are holding consultations to chalk out their strategy, Dawn online reported.
The fourth member of the committee, Irfan Siddiqui, columnist and special assistant to the prime minister on national affairs, is based in Islamabad.
The prime minister had announced Wednesday that his government had decided to give peace another chance by pursuing negotiations with the Taliban militants despite recent attacks on security personnel.
Sharif has called a meeting of the committee Friday at the prime minister house to discuss the next step in the proposed dialogue process with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
