Lahore: British immigration authorities have dismissed Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency’s probe of the visa scandal, involving a ring of corrupt Pakistani officials and politicians which could give potential terrorists the chance to enter Britain with Pakistan’s Olympic team.
The investigation carried out by UK based tabloid The Sun centered on the Lahore-based Dream Land travel agency prosecuted nine years ago for human trafficking.
The British High Commission released a report on Friday, claiming that The Sun’s reporter Ali Asad had successfully attained a fake passport in Pakistan to sneak into Britain along with Pakistan’s Olympic delegation.
The report said that Ali Asad had come to Pakistan on a British passport and managed to get a fake CNIC and a machine-readable Pakistani passport under the name Mohammad Ali Asad, The Express Tribune reports.
According to the British High Commission’s record, Asad’s real date of birth was December 8, 1980, and his residence address was of Sahiwal.
Whereas Mohammad Ali Asad’s date of birth was mentioned as November 8, 1970, and address was of Lahore.
The report also claimed that the pictures made available by the British High Commission included one of Ali Asad and two of Mohammad Ali Asad.
The paper’s undercover investigator was first provided with a genuine Pakistani passport in a false name. Then leading Lahore politician Abid Chodhary spelled out how for around 7,000 pounds he could get our man a two-month visa and smuggle him into London 2012 as part of Pakistan’s Olympic squad.
The Sun secretly filmed Chodhary as he explained how easy it was to get into the Olympic Village by masquerading as a member of the athletes support team.
