Moscow: A Russian spaceship that spun out of control since launching last week may re-enter the atmosphere and crash into the Earth on Friday, according to scientists.

The unmanned Russian spacecraft 'Progress M-27M', originally bound for the International Space Station (ISS), went out of control shortly after reaching the orbit last Tuesday.

Progress is likely to fall from orbit early Friday, said the Russian space agency Roscomos, adding that any fragment to reach the Earth should hit sea and not land.

As of now, it is not possible to predict when and where the spacecraft will fall on the Earth.

Earlier, the Roscomos had estimated that the craft will burn up in the Earth's atmosphere some time between May 5-7.

The Progress cargo spacecraft, carrying three tons of supplies for the crew aboard the ISS, was launched successfully early Tuesday by a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

But the spaceship experienced technical difficulties shortly after liftoff and contact was lost with it afterwards.
