19 cops fined for not abiding by HC order to wear helmets

 Police here became the first victims of the recent Madras High Court order, making it mandatory for two wheeler riders to wear helmets, with 19 of them being fined today for not abiding by the directive.

Madurai: Police here became the first victims of the recent Madras High Court order, making it mandatory for two wheeler riders to wear helmets, with 19 of them being fined today for not abiding by the directive.

Deputy commissioner (Traffic), A B Babu said the policemen were found not wearing helmets during checks across the city to create awareness about the court order.
All of them were fined Rs 100 each.

On June 8, Madras High court made it mandatory for two wheeler riders to wear helmets from July 1 or risk getting their driving licenses impounded.

The court today had made it clear that wearing of helmets by two-wheeler riders is a must and documents, including driving license must be impounded in case of failure to do so.
