Ramanathapuram: To enable the public access police more easily, district police have introduced Alert 306 facility, further improving their existing public information system.
Superintendent of Police NM Mylvahanan said the new facility would enable police to perform better than existing ones and would enable them to instantly respond to distress calls.
Those having Android Mobile Phone could download "Alert 360App" free of cost and easily access to the police network. The department had tied up with Coimbatore-based Ephron Systems, which originally developed the software, he said.
A similar version was available in US, he said.
Under the existing "Hello Police" system, a common Access Number (CAN), 83000 31100, is used. CAN would automatically appear on Mobile screen with the down loaded app, he said.
Even outsiders who had the app on their android phones would get a message "Police assistance is just a swipe away", when they enter the district. The moment they swipe the number, Alert 360 would instantaneously map the caller`s location and enable police to immediately intervene, he said.
If the callers swiped the number, the alert would be received by police officers in the respective area.The control room also would get the alert. The efficacy of the system was also demonstrated.
