Application opens for 10,500 posts in TN Police Youth Brigade

Tamil Nadu Government Monday initiated the process to induct 10,500 personnel for the Special Police Youth Brigade, set up by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with an aim of lessening the burden of state police force.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government Monday initiated the process to induct 10,500 personnel for the Special Police Youth Brigade, set up by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with an aim of lessening the burden of state police force.

Starting today and till 1 October, men in the age group of 18-25 desirous of joining the Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth Brigade, announced by Jayalalithaa in October last year, can apply for the posts, as per a notification issued by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.

The brigade will handle responsibilities such as traffic management, driving police department vehicles, distribution of letters, maintenance of police quarters and support the police in handling accident victims.

The Brigade is expected to lessen the burden of State police in field work besides providing employment to young men.

The personnel, to be recruited through an objective type examination being held on November 10, will be paid a honorarium of Rs 7,500.

Members of the brigade after a year`s service and completion of training will be eligible to appear for a state-level examination and those clearing it will be absorbed in the state Police force.

Jayalalithaa had in April last announced that 10,500 youths?will be recruited in the first phase this year for the brigade.
While Chennai has the maximum number of posts of 2835, tier-II cities have lesser posts. Tiruchi City and Tiruchi District have 165 vacancies each. Madurai City and Madurai District have 110 and 255 posts respectively. Coimbatore City and Coimbatore District have 110 and 285 posts respectively.

A Bill for setting up the?brigade?was passed on 7, February 2013. The Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth Brigade Act, 2013 and Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth Brigade Rules, 2013 were later notified.
