Atomic power project Director injured in TN road mishap

Koodankulam Atomic Power Project Director Kasinath Balaji escaped with injuries while his wife was killed in a collision involving his car and a lorry near Vadipatti in the district, police said.

Balaji and his wife Lakshmi (53) were on their way to the
hill resort town of Kodaikanal in neighbouring Dindigul
District when the accident occurred last afternoon at
Kulasekarankottai, around 25 km from here, they said.

The official had been admitted to a hospital here and his
condition was stable, hospital sources said.

The mishap occurred when the driver Rajiv (30) tried to
overtake a lorry. The driver, who suffered minor injuries,
surrendered to police.

The atomic power plant is being set up in Koodankulam in
Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with
Russia.
