Coimbatore: Seeking to take immediate steps to prevent attacks on Indians in Australia, BJP workers here on Monday sent telegrams to President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The workers, numbering around 40 and led by party state Secretary G K S Selvakumar, sent the telegrams from the Central Telegraph Office to Patil, Singh and also External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, seeking immediate measures to protect the students.
Selvakumar, condemning the increasing incidents of attacks on Indian students, told reporters that Indians, particularly families of nearly 90,000 students studying in Australia, were living in the fear that their wards could be the next target.
