Chennai: BJP`s Tamil Nadu unit on Saturday asked
partymen to stage protests all over the state on November 13
to condemn what it called an attempt on senior leader LK
Advani`s life while commencing the second leg of his
anti-corruption yatra from Madurai last month.
In a statement, unit President Pon Radhakrishnan described
the detection of a crude bomb near Madurai on the yatra route
as a providential escape for the leader.
"The protest is to condemn the anti-nationalist forces`
attempt on Advani`s life," he said.
A powerful pipe bomb was unearthed from under a bridge and
defused on October 27 at Alampatti village, about 30 km from
Madurai, on the route of Advani`s yatra.
The party had decided to celebrate Advani`s 85th birthday
as `anti-corruption week` for a week from November 8 in the
state. Seminars and public meetings would be held during the
week, demanding that the menace be eradicated fully from
society, he said.
