Salem: DMK and AIADMK councillors came to blows during Salem Municipal Corporation Council meeting on Wednesday, following which DMK councillor Deivalingam was suspended from attending two sittings of the council.
The clash took place after Deivalingam allegedly made some remarks on the acquittal of AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case when some AIADMK councillors started praising her.
Suspending Deivalingam, Mayor S Soundappan alleged that Deivalingam brought two rowdies and beat up AIADMK councillors Jamuna Rani and Mariappan.
They have been admitted to hospital, he said.
DMK councillors said Deivalingam was beaten up by AIADMK councillors and he was dragged out from the council hall. He has been admitted to hospital, they said.
