Jayalalithaa orders solatium to kin of 4 killed by elephants

 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday condoled the death of four persons killed in wild elephant attacks, and announced a total relief of Rs 12 lakh to their families.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday condoled the death of four persons killed in wild elephant attacks, and announced a total relief of Rs 12 lakh to their families.

Jayalalithaa expressed her sympathies with the families of the four persons, killed in wild elephant attacks in Nilgiri (two victims), Coimbatore and Krishnagiri districts.

"I have directed providing Rs three lakh as relief through the Forest department immediately to the families of persons killed in these incidents," she said in a statement here.

In a separate statement, Jayalalithaa said she had directed release of water from two reservoirs in Krishnagiri district for irrigation.

Water to be released from the Krishnagiri and Kelavarapalli reservoirs starting tomorrow will benefit over 17,000 acres of farm land, she said.
