`Mastermind` of fake currency racket arrested

The suspected mastermind of a fake currency circulation racket was arrested from Katihar district in Bihar and brought here for questioning, police said today.

Chennai: The suspected mastermind of a fake
currency circulation racket was arrested from Katihar district
in Bihar and brought here for questioning, police said today.

Samsul Haque was arrested recently at Sandhaghat by Tamil
Nadu police, with the assistance of Bihar police. Haque was
brought to Chennai on a transit warrant issued by the Chief
Judicial Magistrate in Katihar, a CB-CID release said.

The team was despatched there after the arrest and
questioning of Afzar Ali (26) and Babu Mandle from whom fake
currency with a face value of Rs 1,000, cellphones and Rs
39,000 worth genuine notes, obtained through circulation of
fake notes by Haque, was seized, it said.

The investigation, transferred to CB-CID, revealed that
Afzar after obtaining the money, deposited it in Samsul`s
account at Sonali Bazaar in Katihar district.
