Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) treasurer MK Stalin on Friday said that his party would boycott the assembly session on Saturday in support of the farmers' protest over the construction of a dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu.

Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) treasurer MK Stalin on Friday said that his party would boycott the assembly session on Saturday in support of the farmers' protest over the construction of a dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu.

"The farmers are going on one-day protest on dam across Cauvery issue supporting it. The DMK will boycott the assembly session tomorrow," he told ANI.

"We should not stop it only with passing a resolution. All the parties should jointly meet the Prime Minister and insist on this," he added.

The Tamil Nadu Government earlier in the day passed a resolution urging the Centre to instruct Karnataka not to proceed with Mekedatu dam project without the former's consent.

The resolution urges the Centre to stop Karnataka from preparing a detailed project report.

It also urges the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board and Water Regulation Committee.
