Rameswaram: All the Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were recently arrested by Sri Lankan Navy, reached here on Wednesday night after a court in the island nation ordered their release, Fisheries Department sources said.

The fishermen were handedover to the Indian Coast Guard personnel by Sri Lankan authorities at the International Maritime boundary line, who brought them in their ship here.

Tamil Nadu government had on March 23 threatened to call off the next day's bilateral talks between fishermen of India and Sri Lanka, to find a solution to various problems, if the fishermen were not released as assured by Lankan Government.

The fishermen said Sri lankan officials took care of them well during their stay there.

Meanwhile, the fishermen and their family members tonight held a demonstration in front of the Coast Guard office here allegedly for not allowing the fishermen to use the toilet and not providing any water and food.

Fishermen Association president Arulanandham alleged that the Coast Guard personnel had treated the fishermen in an "inhuman way". They had come back hungry all the way, he said.
