Theni: Three persons allegedly thrashed a policeman at a checkpost near here and fled after abandoning their car which contained some explosive materials and bullets, police said.
The accused were in an inebriated state and were travelling in a Kerala registered Nano car. They overpowered and beat up the lone policeman during a vehicle check at Kattakaamanpatti last night before escaping under the cover of darkness, they said.
The three carried guns with them while escaping. Three boxes of bullets and some explosive materials were seized from the abandoned car whch has been impounded, police said.
It was not known whether they were naxalites or poachers, Manian, an official of the anti-naxalite wing of the police, told PTI.
He said the driving licence of one of the persons had been seized and two teams rushed to Kumili to locate and arrest them.
