TN: Mother seeks release of son arrested for murder

The family of one Kanakaraj, an accused in the murder of a realtor in the house of a BJP woman councillor, today sought intervention of the district collector to secure his release, claiming that he was innocent and not involved in the crime.

Coimbatore: The family of one Kanakaraj, an accused in the murder of a realtor in the house of a BJP woman councillor, today sought intervention of the district collector to secure his release, claiming that he was innocent and not involved in the crime.

The realtor, Arumugam, hailing from Tirupur, was beaten to death at the house of the councillor Vatsala on March 26 and five persons, including Kanakaraj, were arrested in this connection.

Kanakaraj's wife, along with one-year-old child, and his mother, Thulasimani, arrived at the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum seeking steps to secure his release stating that he was innocent.

In the memorandum, Thulasimani said Kanakaraj was working in a powder manufacturing unit and had gone for duty that day and was present there from 9 Am to 3 PM. After his return, he was watching a World Cup cricket match and had not gone out, proving that he was not involved in the murder, she said.

Police came to the house and took Kanakaraj away,without telling anything, while he was getting ready to go to the factory the next day, she said.

Claiming that her son had no role in the murder, Thulasimani sought the intervention of the collector for his early release.
