Chennai: 25-year-old Dileepan Mahendran's life turned upside down ever since he, in a moment of anger against the 'system', burnt the Indian flag and posted the picture on social media.

The picture went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp and before long two persons filed a legal case against him. A native of Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, Mahendran was arrested and send to a remand home.

However, as per a report in The News Minute, that was the start of him facing the consequences of his reckless act.

Mahendran was allegedly blindfolded and tortured by the police. His lawyer says that the young man was beaten so mercilessly that he suffered a broken hand, his three fingers also got fractured.

The report quoting Mahendran's lawyer Elangovan adds that the injured man taken to a hospital but there the men accompanying him told the doctors not to provide him proper treatment as he was a “traitor”.

However, the police has denied that they physically harmed Mahendran and claimed that he suffered injuries when he was on the run from the police.
