Chennai: As the TNCA Club faced heat for disallowing entry to a Madras High Court Judge for wearing dhoti, one of its senior functionaries on Tuesday declined comment on the issue but maintained the state cricket association had nothing to do with the matter.

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association Club Vice-President P S Raman refused to comment when asked about the July 11 incident when Justice D Hariparanthaman was denied entry into the TNCA Club at Chepauk here for wearing dhoti as he arrived for a book release function.

However, he hastened to add that the TNCA did not have anything to do with the dhoti issue and the club was a separate society.
"TNCA has nothing to do with the dhoti issue. It is a private body. TNCA Club is a separate society and it just happens to be in the facility of Chepauk, it is called as a TNCA Club", Raman told reporters here.
"TNCA club is a private body. You should not mix it with association. It is a separate body and elections are conducted regularly (to select the office bearers)," he said.

However, he clarified that he was making the comments on his personal capacity and not as an office bearer of TNCA.

The issue denial of entry to the judge has triggered protests from political parties which also raised the issue in the state Assembly yesterday, prompting the state government to assure it would look into the issue and take action.
