Coimbatore: A temporary under construction bridge near Mettupalayam, about 40 km from here, was washed away in flash floods today, cutting off two villages from the town.
Mettupalayam and nearby areas in the district have been experiencing heavy rains since last night and traffic has been diverted to Kothagiri via Coonoor, police said.
The temporary bridge was being built to facilitate smooth flow of traffic, as the one on Ramasamy Nagar was washed away in the flash floods.
Senior district officials are monitoring and carrying out restoration work, they said.
