Heatwave: 52 more people die in Telangana, toll crosses 500 mark

Fifty-two more people have died due to heatwave conditions in Telangana in last 24 hours, taking the toll to 541 in the state, a senior official said here on Saturday.

Hyderabad: Fifty-two more people have died due to heatwave conditions in Telangana in last 24 hours, taking the toll to 541 in the state, a senior official said here on Saturday.

"As per information available till 5 PM today, the toll has risen to 541 (from yesterday's 489)," said a senior official of the state disaster management department.

Since April 15, Nalgonda district has recorded maximum number of 139 deaths, followed by Karimnagar (120), Khammam (95) and Mahabubnagar (42).

Heatwave has claimed 36 lives in Ranga Reddy district followed by 35 in Medak district, 26 in Adilabad, 20 in Warangal, 18 in Nizamabad, and 10 in Hyderabad.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions prevailed on Friday over many parts in the districts of Adilabad, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda , Nizamabad and Karimnagar.

The highest maximum temperature of 47 degree Celsius was recorded at Ramagundam yesterday.

According to MeT department, isolated rains occurred over Telangana yesterday.
