Hyderabad woman dies after being assaulted by neighbours; two injured

A 55-year-old woman died, while her husband and son were injured after their neighbours allegedly beat them up with iron rods and sticks in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district, police said on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: A 55-year-old woman died, while her husband and son were injured after their neighbours allegedly beat them up with iron rods and sticks in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district, police said on Tuesday.

K Ashayya and K Laxmaiah have been apprehended for allegedly beating their neighbour T Mogalamma, her husband T Bithcaiah and son T Narahari with iron rods and sticks last night at Mominpet area in the district, over a minor dispute, police said.

"The woman suffered serious head injuries and died en route to hospital while her husband and son were shifted to a government hospital here," DSP Vikarabad (Sub- Division), T Swamy said.

Asked on reports which claimed that the couple were attacked as they were "practising witchcraft", the DSP said the family members were assaulted over a dispute on a lane between their houses where they used to walk.

"Last night, the elderly couple were standing in front of the accused's house and reportedly used abusive language. Enraged over it, Ashayya and Laxmaiah allegedly beat them up with iron rods and sticks," he said.

The attackers were taken into custody and a case has been lodged against them on charges of murder and attempt to murder, Swamy said, adding, further probe into the matter was on.
