Hyderabad: Telangana Police on Friday launched a campaign against child sex abuse and called for zero tolerance against the menace for which it sought cooperation from parents and educational institutes.

A kit prepared after collating material from different sources and containing posters with messages for parents, teachers and children on the issue of child sex abuse was released at an event here.

As part of the campaign, personnel from all police stations under Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits will distribute the tool kits from tomorrow till November 20 to about 3,000 schools, Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma told reporters.

"They (police personnel) will talk to managements (of educational institutions) about the institutional mechanism which is to be put in place to ensure a safe environment for children to grow up in," Sharma said.

The DGP said parents have a pivotal role in nurturing their children and making them aware, open-minded, independent and providing a safe environment for them.

Schools also have a unique role to break pattern of violence by giving children, their parents and society, the knowledge and skills to communicate and resolve conflict in constructive ways, he said.

A 2007 national study on `child sex abuse' states that 53.22 per cent girls and 49 per cent boys are abused, the Telangana police chief said adding "It is time to ensure zero tolerance against child sex abuse."

A rally will be organised here on November 19 to highlight the issue. Thousands of school children besides senior police officers and tennis star Sania Mirza, who is Telangana brand ambassador, are expected to take part in the rally, CID Inspector General Charu Sinha said.
