85 cartons of liquor being smuggled to lure voters seized in UP

A team of district excise department officials has seized 85 cartons of liquor which were allegedly being smuggled to lure voters for the gram pradhan elections, an official said here on Monday.

Muzaffarnagar: A team of district excise department officials has seized 85 cartons of liquor which were allegedly being smuggled to lure voters for the gram pradhan elections, an official said here on Monday.

According to District Excise Official Karunendra Singh, inspectors Himmat Singh and Avdhesh Mishra intercepted a vehicle near Goela road here last evening and found 85 cartons of illegal liquor in it upon searching.

The vehicle was seized and one Ravinder was arrested, while his accomplice escaped from the spot, the official said, adding that liquor was being smuggled to be distributed among voters for the ongoing gram panchayat elections.

The matter is being further investigated, the official said.
