Allahabad: Two persons have been arrested and
a doctor has been detained for allegedly supplying adulterated
blood to a number of clinics in and around the city, a senior
police official said today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested one Alok, the
alleged kingpin of the `spurious blood racket` from Kydganj
police station area last night, Additional Superintendent of
Police (City) Subhash Singh Baghel told reporters here.

He said the arrest was made following complaints that a
gang was active in the city which collected blood from
medically unfit donors and sold the samples, after adding
water and other chemicals to increase the volume, to
city-based nursing homes at a premium.

Alok`s interrogation today led to the arrest of Anand
Raj, a lab technician at a city-based diagnostic centre, who
used to provide the expertise and the logistics required for
collecting blood from donors who included locals as well as
those hailing from adjoining districts, Baghel said.

The arrested duo has claimed that the racket was being
run in the knowledge of a city-based doctor Mukesh, who played
the role of a "mediator", the Additional SP said adding that
the medical practitioner has been taken into custody for
questioning.
