Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Thursday
summoned the principal secretaries of Law and Finance
departments of Uttar Pradesh government in connection with a
contempt matter.

They have been asked to appear before the court on
November 24.

The order was passed by Justice D P Singh on a contempt
petition filed by Private Secretaries Brotherhood, an
association of private secretaries to the government advocates
practising in the High Court.

In the petition, it has been alleged that the court in an
order dated July 29, 1998, ruled that the petitioners be
entitled to the pay scale which equally-placed employees of
the High Court were getting.

The order was challenged by the state government in the
Supreme Court which was rejected.

However, despite all this, the petitioners were yet to
get the pay scale approved by the court.

The court has directed the two officers, named as
respondents in the petition, to appear in person and show
cause as to why contempt charges may not be framed against
them.
