Noida: In the wake of intense cold conditions in the state capital, the district administration on Tuesday ordered closure of all the schools upto class 8 till January 24, as per CNN-IBN.

In view of the rain, the administration further ordered opening of classes above VIII to start after 9 am, according to PTI.

A report from Amethi said all basic schools have been closed till January 21 and secondary schools to start from 10 am.

Light to moderate rain and thundershower occurred at some parts of Uttar Pradesh today, while night temperature rose at various places.

The first rain of the season brought cheer to the farmers who hoped that the showers would benefit their crops.

The MeT office here said that chief amount of rainfall recorded in cm was Mehrauni 2, and Lalitpur and Atara 1 each.

Moderate to dense fog also occurred at isolated places in the state, they added.

On Monday night, temperature rose in Agra, Meerut, Lucknow, Faizabad, Kanpur, Jhansi and Gorakhpur divisions.

Temperature was above normal in Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra, Faizabad, Jhansi and Meerut divisions.

The Lowest minimum temperature in the state was 4.5 degrees Celsius, recorded at Nazibabad.

The weather office has forecast that light rain/thundershower is very likely at several places, moderate to dense fog is very likely at isolated places.
