Convict absconding for 14 years held

A murder convict who was absconding for last 14 years has been arrested from Vikas Nagar area, officials said Wednesday.

Lucknow: A murder convict who was
absconding for last 14 years has been arrested from Vikas
Nagar area, officials said Wednesday.

Ram Prasad alias Guddu, who escaped from the district
court lock up in 1996 and was living in Gudumba area with a
pseudo name, was arrested Tuesday, they said.

Guddu along with 10 others had escaped from the court
after breaking the window of the lock-up. He was involved in
murder and robbery at the house of a former assistant director
of Central Drug Research Institute in 1992.

Guddu and his accomplices were also involved in
robbery at Madiyaon branch of the Bank of India in 1996,
police said.

He was later arrested and the court had sentenced
Guddu and his accomplices in these cases, they said, adding he
was carrying a reward of Rs 5000 on his head.
