Crop damage compels UP farmer to commit suicide

A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide following massive losses to crops due to untimely rains and hailstorm in Basai Mohammadpur area here, police said Friday.

Firozabad: A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide following massive losses to crops due to untimely rains and hailstorm in Basai Mohammadpur area here, police said Friday.

Ram Charan's body was found hanging from a tree yesterday in his agriculture field in Garhi Tewari area, DySP Sadar Jagdish Singh said.
In a complaint, his family members said he was in shock over crop losses due to untimely rains and hailstorm, he said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, the DySP said, adding, the matter is being investigated.
