Farmer attempts suicide in UP

A 50-year-old farmer allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree in front of the office of Irrigation Department here but was prevented from doing so by the officials.

Mathura: A 50-year-old farmer allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree in front of the office of Irrigation Department here but was prevented from doing so by the officials.

However, the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department and also the Additional District Magistrate denied knowledge of any such incident. Although, the ADM, Dhirendra Pratap Singh said that he will look into the matter if he receives any complaint regarding it.

The farmer claims that officials had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to solve his case.

According to an eyewitness, he has identified himself as a resident of Nangla Jhinga village in this district alleged that a case was going on against him in the irrigation department.

The farmer claimed that he has been visiting the office time and again but could never meet the concerned officer also hearing of his case has not taken place and added that that all his crop has been destroyed, the eyewitness added.

He then tried to hang himself from a tree there and was later pacified by the officials and sent home.

The incident comes just few days after Gajendra Singh of Dausa village in Rajasthan committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree during AAP's Kisan rally.
