Dense fog claimed five lives in accidents in different parts of the state, even as light to moderate rains occurred at some places.

Lucknow: Dense fog claimed five lives in accidents in different parts of the state, even as light to moderate rains occurred at some places.

Two motorcycle-borne youths were killed after they were knocked down by an unidentified vehicle due to fog early this morning in Atraulia police station area of Azamgarh, police said.

Two other persons lost their lives in Haidergarh police station area of Barabanki when their motorcycle was hit by a truck because of dense fog last night, they said.
One other person was killed in Jehagirabad police station area of Barabanki in a similar accident last night, police said.

Meanwhile, cold day conditions prevailed at isolated places over the state even as light to moderate rains occurred at some places, the MeT office said.

According to the MeT office, Kanpur, Orai and Hamirpur each recorded rainfall of 1 cm each.
Night temperatures rose in Allahabad, Jhansi, Agra, Varanasi and Lucknow. The temperatures changed a little in the remaining divisions over the state.

They were below normal in Meerut, Gorakhpur, Moradabad and above normal in Jhansi and were normal in the remaining divisions of the state.

Lowest minimum temperature of the state was recorded in Muzaffarnagar at 3.0 degrees Celsius. Kanpur recorded 4.2 degrees Celsius.

The MeT office has forecast that rain or thundershower would occur at a few places over eastern part of the state and isolated places over the western part. Fog would occur at a few places over eastern region and isolated places over western districts.
