Girl raped while returning from laptop distribution programme

An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Sukulbazar area here by the driver of the vehicle in which she was returning home after attending a laptop distribution programme in neighbouring Faizabad, police said on Tuesday.

Amethi: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Sukulbazar area here by the driver of the vehicle in which she was returning home after attending a laptop distribution programme in neighbouring Faizabad, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place yesterday night when the girl, a student of Ramchandra Smarak Inter College in Jamuari here, was returning home from Faizabad after receiving a laptop under the state government`s programme, they said.

According to sources, the girl along with 50 other girls were send to Dhanpata Maurya Mahila Inter College at Rasulpur in Faizabad for the laptop distribution programme.
The programme, scheduled to start at 2 PM got delayed and concluded around 10 PM, after which the girls were asked to return in an SUV arranged by the college.

After all other girls were dropped, the victim was allegedly raped by driver of the SUV and dumped alongside the road. She then somehow reached home and narrated the incident to her family members, who approached the police.

"On the basis of girl`s complaint, the accused has been arrested and the victim has been sent for medical examination," Superintendent of Police Hiralal told a news agency.
