Gujjar agitation: 10 activists surrender in court; get bail

Gujjar leader Choudhary Ilem Singh and nine others today surrendered before a sessions court which granted them bail in a case regarding disruption of traffic during a protest here.

Ilem Singh and nine others today surrendered before a sessions
court which granted them bail in a case regarding disruption
of traffic during a protest here in support of an agitation by
their counterparts in Rajasthan in 2007.

District and Sessions Judge Raj Bahadur Singh granted
them bail on condition that they furnish bonds of Rs 25,000
each.

According to the case, a group of members from the
community led by Singh, also the SP divisional President,
blocked traffic along the Delhi-Dehradun highway at Barla
village here in support of the Rajasthan Gujjar agitation on
June 3, 2007.

Gujjar leader Col Bainsla Bainsla led a violent agitation
in Rajasthan then, demanding reservation to the community
which resulted in the deaths of dozens in police firing.

Singh and his supporters held a protest here in support
of their counterparts in the neighbouring state and a case was
lodged against them in Phatar police station.
