Jail sting reveals ex-UP minister Amarmani Tripathi's luxurious life in custody

Lucknow: Once a powerful politician and former minister in the Uttar Pradesh government,  Amarmani Tripathi, who has been convicted of murdering poetess Madhumita Shukla, is living like a VVIP along with his wife in the Gorakhpur hospital, it has emerged on Wednesday.

A sting operation conducted by the CBN-IBN, revealed how Amarmani has bend all rules in his favour and how the UP Police is helping him live a comfortable life when he should be serving his life term in the Uttarakhand jail.

The sting also exposes how all rules in the jail manual are being overlooked by the authorities for Tripathi and his wife.

Both Amarmani and his wife have been staying in a hospital in Gorakhpur on the pretext of getting medical treatment.

The husband-wife duo are being treated for 'depression' among other diseases including 'suicidal tendencies' and 'spondylitis' at the Gorakhpur hospital.

The sting showed how the husband-wife duo have turned a ward in the hospital into their personal living quarters secured by private body guards.

While the UP police does everything to make the couple comfortable, no body is allowed to meet them without their permission.

And, as if it is not enough, Amarmani also holds a ''durbar'' to hear grievances of his supporters and general public from his constituency and provides them all possible help.

During the under-cover operation, Amarmani also offered to get plum posting for the reporters who approached him posing as policemen.

Defying all rules and regulations, Tripathi and his wife have managed to avoid jail and stayed in this hospital on grounds of serious ailments, despite an adverse medical opinion about the same.

"Our criminal and justice system is so corrupt that by bribing you can get your job done. Both police and judiciary are involved. In our country everybody has a price and Amarmani is taking advantage of this. Nobody is able to take any action against Amarmani because the UP government is supporting him," former DGP Uttar Pradesh KL Gupta was also quoted as saying in his reaction to the sting.

Madhumita's sister Nidhi Shukla has also expressed hope that the Samajwadi Party government led Akhilesh Yadav will realise the truth and take some concrete action against Amarmani.

"I am sure after this sting operation, the UP government will start taking action. But I know that will be only for few days. Amarmani might again be sent to jail," she was quoted as saying.

The former politician had in past switched camps from Congress to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Samajwadi Party (SP) to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for political gains.
