Labourer killed, two others injured in Azamgarh firing

A labourer was killed and two others were seriously injured when six motorcycle-borne armed men opened fire on them when they were constructing a road in Erakhurd village under Tarva police station area, police said today.

Ram Iqbal (32), resident of Bihar, died on the spot and two others were seriously injured when six miscreants on two motorcycles opened fire on them last night, Superintendent of Police (city) Vinod Kumar said.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital, the SP said, adding that one person has been taken into custody for questioning.

A few days earlier some youths claiming to be associates of a criminal, lodged in Gorakhpur jail, had demanded extortion from the contractor whose labourers were involved in the construction work, the SP added.
